Board Meeting Highlights
March 21, 2018
Item7(a): Board Members received a presentation on the GASELPA Adaptive PE (APE) Department, by Ms. Courtney Curran, Adaptive PE (APE) Specialist.
Item8(c): Board Members were provided with copies of the agendas for the March 2018 State SELPA meetings. Board Members were also provided with copies of the March 2018 State SELPA Committee Summaries.
Item8(d)(1): Board Members were provided a brief update on the California State Senate - Joint Hearing – Senate Education, Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Subcommittee No. 1 on Education and Assembly Education and Assembly Budget Subcommittee No. 2 on Education Finance that was held on February 28, 2018.
Item8(d)(2): Board Members reviewed a report prepared by the Coalition for Adequate Funding for Special Education regarding the Percentage of Total Special Education Expenditures Supported by State, Federal and Local Funds as of June 30, 2017. Percentages were as follows: State 26.70%, Federal 8.85% and Local 64.45%.
Item8(e)(1): Board Members reviewed the Coalition for Adequate Funding for Special Education – Legislative Report dated February 23, 2018.
Item8(f): Board Members discussed the CAC Recognition Awards that will be presented during the April 18, 2018 Board meeting to be held at the Walter Knott Education Center MPR.
Item8(g): Board Members reviewed a listing of the Trainings/Staff Developments that were conducted by GASELPA staff members during the month of February 2018.
Item9(a): Board Members were updated on a scheduled all staff training that will be held July 31, 2018 regarding CPR/First Aid.
Item9(b): Board Members discussed an upcoming Board Study Session, which will be program visits to Holder Elementary School (Savanna School District and Vessels Elementary School (Magnolia School District) on March 28, 2018.
Item9(c): Board Members were informed that the Greater Anaheim SELPA had been presented with a Southern California Relief (SCR) Certificate of Recognition – No High Priority Hazards.
Item9(d): Board Members reviewed a letter from Mr. Howard C. Marinier, Orange County Department of Education, Administrator, Business Services, regarding the Orange County Department of Education’s review of the GASELPA’s 2016-17 Annual Financial Report Findings and Recommendations, acknowledging the annual financial report did not contain any of the above mentioned findings or recommendations.
Item10(a-f): Board Members took action on warrants, personnel items and contracts.
Items 11: Board Members entered Closed Session to discuss Personnel Issues.</p>
Item12: Board Members reported out of Closed Session.
Item13(a): Board Members took action on the Memorandum of Understanding Between West Orange County Consortium for Special Education (WOCCSE) SELPA and the Greater Anaheim SELPA.
Item13(b): Board Members took action on the Independent Contractor Agreement with the Brain Learning Psychological Corporation.
Item13(c): Board Members took action on the Independent Contractor Agreement with Disaster Survival Skills, LLC.
Item12(d): Board Members took action on Board Policy 5141.4 – Child Abuse Reporting.
Item13(e): Board Members took action on the Administrative Regulation 5141.4 – Child Abuse Reporting.
Item13(f): Board Members took action on the hiring of two (2) additional Program Specialist.
Item13(g): Board Members took action on the hiring of an additional Adaptive PE (APE) Specialist.
Item13(i): Board Members took action on the Second Interim JPA Certification of Interim Report for the Fiscal Year 2017-18.
